Correlates of Black Adolescent Males' Condom Use

Joseph H. Pleck

Wheaton College

In data from the 1979 National Survey of Younger Men, Black adolescent males reported a somewhat lower rate of condom use than did White males at first intercourse. The race difference in condom use was evident only among those becoming sexually active at age 13 years or younger, and when the partner was a steady girlfriend. Black males showed a higher rate of condom use than did White males at most recent intercourse.
